Congratulations Ray and Coleen
Saturday will see one of my oldest mates (he’s nearly 50!) , getting hitched to a loose woman.
You try to warn your friends but what can you do? They have to live their own lives. They can’t be hanging on your coat tails forever and at 49½ it’s time to let go!
Truth is, it’s 15 years since we used to party most nights away around Leeds. He played lead guitar and I sold contact lenses to make ends meet. We both lived in Leeds. Him with his mum and dad, me with my sister, and the most important thing on our agenda was where would the action be that night. No long term stuff going on, just living for the moment.
How things change when kids come into your life. I remember saying, when I was 18, I would be successful when I had kids and it would seem to be materialising before my very eyes. As for Ray, he’s gone on to be a musical director putting on shows for the likes of Next, hanging out with Hollywood’s finest, booking Lionel Richie, planning a Michael Vaughan benefit bash, playing guitar for Bonnie Tyler with only a few hours notice... the boy is rocking the planet.
Ray’s life changed when he met Coleen, and in the summer of 2001, Ciara Fensome was born. His everything changed forever. No longer was Ray the centre of his universe, Ciara took the No.1 spot. This Saturday, after many public hints on prime time TV, Ray has finally granted Coleen Nolan’s wish to make her an honest woman. It’s sure to be a top production if Ray’s got anything to do with it and someone else is picking up the tab!
Ali and I are looking forward to giving them both a great send off and wish them all the best for the future and a long and happy marriage... to each other!
