Why and how to make New Year's Resolutions?
Getting serious about your business’ New Year's Resolutions will make your business more successful, enjoyable, and secure. Although you can make changes to your business any time of the year, forming Resolutions at the start of the year has considerable psychological impact.
Making Resolutions that have meaning need consideration and support from the rest of your team. Once the Resolutions have been formalised, these should be written out, distributed to all employees and posted on the notice board. People should be assigned to the tasks ensuring they know their role and the time frame for these to be completed. Set practical objectives in quantifiable terms, such as percents, numbers, or pounds. Have periodic meetings to discuss the Resolutions to see how they are progressing. Identify the advantages to your employees in completing these resolutions. Provide recognition and rewards for employees who assist with implementing the Resolution(s). Ensure that you have management’s commitment to making the changes by providing emotional, financial and staff support for each Resolution. Also, open up and consider Resolution ideas from your employees. Ask them for suggestions on how they think they could help the business become more efficient, profitable, satisfying, etc. If they are individual Resolutions, spend some time identifying solutions and discuss with management ways in which these can be implemented. This should be feed back to employees. Form a committee that has a mix of management and team members to filter all the suggestions and select the top 5-10 ideas that can then become the Resolutions. This team can then also be responsible for checking on the progress of these throughout the year and reporting back. Restricting the number of Company Resolutions helps to focus attention and minimizes the likelihood of having these meaningful areas pushed aside. These Resolutions can only bring a year full of improvement and the kind of company-wide involvement that experts recommend for success. www.businessinberkshire.co.uk
