I’ve just attended Tom Evans’ “Unleash the Book Inside” 2 day workshop in The Surrey Hills.
Now I’m not the best trainee on the planet, I much prefer to dive in and work things out for myself. I find many trainers patronising and so tend to dismiss offers of training with little consideration. 2009 has seen me welcome training opportunities. I’d met Tom at an event organised by Christine Clacey at Dell during 2008 and I was fascinated by the chap. He had a techy background and had changed career a few years back, studying the human condition with a techy brain, absorbing everything, going off and “proving stuff” to his satisfaction and putting this stuff in boxes for instant recall as the conversation requires. And certainly not presented in a techy way but very real, easy to absorb way. I just wanted to spend some time around this amazing life force and see what scraps fell off for my utilisation. The two days were not stressful, starting at 10, finishing at 4-4:30, enabling me to get up as normal and be home in time for tea with the family. The other attendees were keen to learn and not your run of the mill seminar addicts. In fact, there was a distinct quality vibe about the group. What we learned was all very useful to budding authors. We’ll be tuning in to Tom’s various online forums to keep pace with our authoring mentor so we can book for his next inspiring course, goodness knows what topic it’ll be on but he’s sure to lead us in the right direction.
