A Positive Social Media Experience |
|
My daughter Chloe has always had a thing for Boris Johnson … and through the power of social media I was able to make a young lady smile …
So how did this positive social media experience happen? Well I’ll have to take you back a week or so … I was just off conquering some part of the globe when I thought I would just pop in a check my Linkedin account. A few message from folk I know and a few “Let’s connect” from strangers which, depending on my mood, get deleted straight away or, on occasion, I take a few moments to check their profile as I do tend to forget people I’ve met … my brain is only so big it can’t store stuff for ever, so people drop out all the time and a quick read may engage a few cells to spark … then again !! On this occasion Sangeeta had taken the time to connect properly … not just simply leaving the default message but making up one of her own … Hi Jon, I read your profile on Linkedin and your field of expertise in social media interests me. I run my own PR consultancy and I believe social media is shaping the way we all do business, irrespective of business type/sector and our lives...and on that I would like to connect. Best wishes, Sangeeta I checked her profile and noticed she’d done some PR for the Mayors office … that triggered a thought of a smile on Chloe’s face which prompted me into action … I replied in my typically direct fashion: Hi Sangeeta Only if you can tell me how to get a sign pic of Boris for my daughter ... she thinks he is the best !! An hour or so later I got a message that the picture was in the post !!!! Bank holiday Monday got in the way but then an envelope … I couldn’t wait for Chloe to get home from school … I passed her the envelope and said, “Oh look, one for you!” She grab it in a "whatever" type of way and proceeded to rip it apart !!! “STOP! Let me help you…” I suggested with visions of Boris’ hair all over the lounge ! She took the envelope, now interested to see what might be inside … “BORIS!” She yelled as he mood changed completely … brilliant to watch … made both our days ! “Do you KNOW Boris?” “Met him once for a few minutes but no, I know a lady who does.” Off she went upstairs to put Boris in pride of place and tell all her pals on Facebook how great the old man was !! Marvellous … So don’t just brush past all those people looking to connect with you … if they take the time to add a personal message then take the time to read their profile … you never know where it might lead. Thank you Sangeeta Haindl for making for a very positive social media experience and would it be pushing it to sort out lunch with Boris at City Hall for Chloe and a couple of pals … see what you can do … summer hols coming up … tarr very much Jon 01753 852904 |
